The challenge at. The Craft Barn was to make something incorporating faux finishes that they had been showcasing that week.
So I made an over sized tag.
I chose a favourite technique of faux crackle using acrylic paints and glue. I use eco green paints for this as out of all the different brand acrylics I've found these work best.
When dry, I used a small tim Holtz diamond stamp and indigo blue versafine ink and repeat stamped to build up a background pattern and a Paper Artsy round stamp for added interest and layers. Then I used some picket fence distress stain and edge of craft scraper to add some random lines here and there on the tag.
Then I got out the spackle (I do love this product) and used a crafters workshop mask with it. Using it as it comes out the tub, nothing else mixed in.
I decided to incorporate other techniques they had shown too including faux stitching for which I used string coloured with flex marker and faux metal for which I did originally colour some metal sheet with paint wiped away and embossed , but it didn't go with the tag, so I painted some card with silver paint and when dry I applied alcohol inks over the top. I'd seen this faux metal technique long time ago so had a bash and really liked it, so I embossed it with a cuttlebug folder and die cut 3 butterflies with tim Holtz movers and shapers die.
The flower is card painted with turquoise, white and purple acrylic paints then stamped with an Indigo Blu diamond background stamp using chipped sapphire distress ink. Then the flowers die cut using tim Holtz tattered florals die and built up into a 3d flower. The blue parts representing foliage is one of the flowers from the die cut into sections and arranged around the flower.
Finally I glued my butterflies on.
I wanted the crackle effect shown so didn't want to over fill my tag and end up covering most of it up.
I have decorated the back too, albeit quickly, covering the chipboard with peacock distress ink and using a dreamweaver stencil as I was enjoying having out the spackle and pallet knife. Also I stuck on my metal butterflies as shame to waste them.
I hope you like my project, I did try other things along the way and experiment but they just didn't seem to go right with the tag, so it was onto the next idea and I got there in the end and enjoyed getting inky fingers and messy with paints. X
Happy crafting
