Steampunk That Craft Place DT

Hello crafty friends, it's time for a new challenge over at THAT CRAFT PLACE CHALLENGE BLOG. It's my turn to host a challenge and I've chosen the theme..STEAMPUNK. Why? Because you really can let your imagination run wild and get creative and messy if you like in the process. I know I did.

This challenge runs til 4th August 2012

We are proud to be sponsored by Indigo Blu with a prize for the overall winner.

Need some craft supplies, then pop over to the shop or the Facebook group. Lisa has lots to offer and new arrivals all the time.

Now onto my sample.
I went three dimensional and took inspiration from the main stamp of men in top hats. I immediately thought Top Hat n Tails and and took the idea literally making a sturdy hat complete with birds and birds nest.
I used all sorts to embellish my hat from polymer clay stamped into, twigs were from my laundry basket, tin foil from pie dish, paper, card, string and chain.
Lots of techniques and products used; dry and heat embossing, alcohol inks, distress inks and stains, masking, stamping, acrylic paints, modeling paste on the pocket a bit of everything really.
To make the key I used the key stamped into hot cut n dry then used this to stamp into the polymer clay.
I used more stamps and a coin with clay for the other metal effect embellishments.
For the top hat side of the tag I made the background using thickly layered gesso then sprayed 3 different ink sprays heavily and loaded the top with table salt. Dried slowly with heat tool and brushed the salt off leaving a cool sandy texture which I then stuck some parts of stamped image on and triple embossed and cracked the men n ruler.

I've tried to keep it as short as possible in explaining what I did.
Thanks for looking and I hope this gives some ideas, the rest of our talented design team have really come up with more excellent ideas shown on the challenge blog.
Good luck with your entries
